45 Minute Commute

Today was Rox's first day in the office.  She has made this trip before, but when you are staring at the prospect of a 45-minute commute (minimum) each way for 2 years, your perspective is a bit changed.  Riding in a taxi allows you to check e-mail and maybe even have a conference call.  Once she starts driving, it will take every ounce of her concentration to make there in one piece.  Thankfully, the earlier you leave, the better.  Plus, the drive skirts through the heart of Georgetown and then parallels the coast looking east toward Butterworth shortly after sunrise.  Not a bad view at all.
Chris found a supplier for kombucha culture so he can brew his own.  The man was a bit cryptic via e-mail and was even harder to decipher on the phone.  Mr. Khoo claims to be a feng shui master and sells the cultures as well as crystals and doubtless other eastern remedies.  No telling what Chris will come home with if he ever makes it to the shop.  And Angie was worried about Jim brewing his own at home... He also attended a class parents' breakfast and met a few of the other parents from Brenna's class.  Nice ladies who were very willing to offer advice and help during our transition.
Brenna's second day at school went a little better.  It was a "normal" routine, so more structured than day one was.  She had Math, Literacy, Science and Music today.  Music was particularly fun as she got to use her shiny new recorder.  We were treated to a concert this evening and had to limit her practice session to stop her from attempting to play every song in her book!  The acoustics of "Il Palazzo" are just right for recorder concerts, particularly when it is half empty and has no rugs or wall coverings to absorb the notes... Chris took refuge in the office.  Here's a photo of Brenna in her hand-sewn uniform - too cute!
Tonight we dined on tiny little shrimp we found in the Cold Storage next door, cooked scampi style and served over fettuccine.  Though small, they had a very strong flavor, but Brenna loves shrimp and ate heartily.  Also had small bowls of our $9 cookies and cream....it ain't Publix, but it hit the spot.
